ESZ Mini Z 2.4 m / 8 ft Tenkara Rod
The ESZ Mini Z 2.4 m (8 ft) is our shortest, lightest, and most compact Tenkara rod to date. Developed in response to strong customer demand for an ultralight 8-foot-class rod, it is the result of two years of design refinement and on-the-water testing.
Because ESZ designs to metric standards, the true extended length is 2.4 m, which corresponds to approximately 7.8 ft.
With a 3:7 action (Japanese rating 7:3), the Mini Z delivers a very fast, crisp, and responsive feel. It is purpose-built for tight, overgrown small creeks and is especially well-suited for chasing brook trout and other small-stream species.
Instead of a traditional cork grip, the Mini Z uses a tapered handle section with a textured hard anti-slip coating. This greatly improves durability and reduces weight while maintaining a secure, comfortable hold. It also enhances packability: the rod tube measures only 31 mm (1.22 in) in diameter and 352 mm (13.86 in) in length, making it an excellent choice for backpacking, hiking, and ultralight travel.
As with all ESZ Tenkara rods, the Mini Z features a 360-degree spinning Lillian for effortless line management and Anti-Lock Channels (ALC) to help prevent sections from over-tightening or sticking. A weighted aluminum butt cap further improves overall balance during casting.
